Purpose. This volume provides general
information pertaining to general maintenance and
practices. Specific aircraft application, usage, and
substitution is found in the individual aircraft
maintenance manual. This volume is of maximum
benefit to the mechanic who desires general information
about general maintenance and practices. This volume
furnishes the mechanic a source of information about
how to perform various maintenance practices used on
all aircraft. This volume is not a requisitioning authority,
and applicable repair parts and special tools list should
be consulted to obtain the unit of issue and National
Stock Number of the items required for maintenance.
However, this manual may be used as authority to
obtain necessary assistance and safety related material

Scope. General information to guide aircraft
maintenance personnel is covered in this volume,
however, no attempt has been made to include special
parts or equipment which are applicable only to
individual or special aircraft. Chapters 1, 2, and 3 cover
the introduction, hangar and shop operations and
flightline operations. Chapters 4, 5, and 6 explain
aircraft storage and shipment, marking of aeronautical
items, and application and removal of decals. General
maintenance practices for reciprocating engines, turbine
engines, and airframes are described in Chapters 7, 8,
and 9. Arctic, desert, and tropic maintenance
procedures are covered in Chapter 10. Life support
maintenance procedures are covered in Chapter 11.
Finally, Chapters 12 and 13 explain pyrotechnics and
aircraft cleaning
