This student is using ClassWorks computer software in the lab to review sentences. She typed an invitation in Kid Works Deluxe, painted a picture, and printed the final project.

Day 320 - Luis at the computer

Today I had my second computer class with the first graders. Last time they learned how to use the mouse, and today I had them find all the letters and numbers on the keyboard. First they had to type the alphabet, in order, and then they had to write their names. Some of the kids got confused because all the keys on the keyboard are in upper-case, but they needed lower-case letters to write their names. One little girl asked me where they key was for the letter that has a straight back and a big belly out frontâ€"a lower-case “b.”

Luis, pictured here, is the smallest kid in his class, but chose the largest computer to use. He's also one of the smartest kids, and only needed help finding the “Q.” When I showed him where it was, he told me that he didn't think they should have written in that way, and that probably the keyboard was wrong.
